Most cosmetic procedures are ambulatory and do not require a hospital stay. Outpatient procedures require someone to drive you home or hotel. At Eden Esthetics we offer nurse-led, home care services for those first days after surgery, if you should desire.

The vast majority of post-operative care is not complicated. We will give you written instructions of the restrictions related to your operation and what things you can do to help your body heal. The first visit with me is one to five days after surgery. From then on postoperative visits vary according to the procedure. The last visit is 3 to 6 months later.

It is very important to rest for a few days after surgery. Your body will let you know you can and cannot do. The surgical area will swell and bruise possibly with a purple discoloration. This is normal and occurs every time your body is injured, either by a blow or a scalpel. To reduce these symptoms you must keep the bandage in place for 24 hours, raise the affected area, and apply cold compresses for 48 hours. The surgical area will feel numb for a while, and will gradually return to normal.

Recovery also has to be active, not passive. You have to move within the limits set by me and by your body.

Postoperative changes are gradual and tend to improve with time. After two weeks you will have a good sense of how it will look; however, results will be further enhanced during a period of three months to one year.

Remember that nobody is perfectly symmetrical and therefore no one will be after surgery. When the differences are very large, I will try as much as possible to correct them.

Exposure to direct sunlight is not recommended for three months. The scars have to be protected from the sun with clothing or a sun block cream of at least SPF 30 while they remain reddish in color.

The most important thing regarding the postoperative period is that you can get in touch with me 24 hours a day should you have any questions or concerns. Never think or feel that this is bothering me; I'm here to help make this a pleasant experience at all times.

After your operation you will be eager to see the final result. You will be very conscious of your appearance and any scars or bruises. Because of this, it is normal to go through a period of mild mood changes. Do not despair; be patient, everything will eventually improve. Even after swelling and bruising subside, it may take three months to a year for the tissues return to normal, looking better and better with time.
